A child-free night in Bristol

There comes a point in every mum’s ‘career’ when they have to spend their first night away from their baby. Mine came in November.

Tin Box Baby is six-months-old – a whole year younger than Tin Box Tot was when I left her for the first time. But boy, was I ready. Mainly because I needed to make up some sleep.

If you’ve ever accidentally clicked on my ‘About’ page you’ll know that outside of the blogging world I have a job in public relations. The excuse for a night away came in the form of my annual pilgrimage to Bristol for the CIPR Southern England and Channel Islands PRide Awards.

This is the highlight in the regional PR calendar and sees all the top agencies and in-house communications teams celebrating excellence in the industry.

I felt extremely lucky to attend with my colleagues from Briscoe French as I’m actually still on maternity leave. It was great to catch up with everyone and enjoy a sparkly night at the Bristol City Marriott.

Equally important for a sleep deprived mummy of a two-year-old and a six-month-old baby was that I was having a night off my parenting duties.

I made the most of it by wallowing in a bath, watching breakfast news with a hot cuppa and eating two whole meals without having to simultaneously feed a small person.

The awards evening was great fun and unlike last year, when I was toasting the winners with a mocktail as I was four months pregnant, I was able to have a few drinks.

The Marriott was fantastic. I love the attention to detail of their customer service team. They even remembered that I hadn’t been able to have a drink last year. That’s one impressive CRM system they have in place!
